Bernese mountain dogs ranked favorite breed in PA by Forbes Advisor survey

A survey of 10,000 American dog owners done by Forbes Advisor has ranked Bernese mountain dogs as Pennsylvania’s favorite dog breed.

Beagles and Boxers take second and third place in Pennsylvania. The state’s least favorite breeds are German shorthaired pointers, miniature schnauzers, and havanese dogs. No Pennsylvania residents chose any of these breeds as their favorite.

Pennsylvania’s favorite breed is ranked fifth nationwide, with a total of 9 states ranking Bernese mountain dogs as their favorite according to the survey.

The top-ranked dog breed nationwide is the Australian Shepherd. According to Jason Metz, Lead Editor of the Forbes Advisor Insurance team, this could be because of their good health. “Some breeds are more prone to health conditions, and veterinary costs ranked as the second most costly recurring expense for pet parents, according to our study” says Metz.

The second favorite nationwide was also a Shepherd breed: the German Shepherd.
