( WJET/WFXP ) — Finding locally grown or produced food can be a real struggle in today’s world whether it’s fresh produce or hometown goods.

In some cities, it’s much easier to find fresh local food than in others, but which one is the best in Pennsylvania?

A recent study from Lawnstarter sought to answer just that by compiling data from 500 cities across the U.S. and ranking them based on access to u-pick farms, on-farm markets, and local dairy farms along with local food movement chapters and 21 other metrics.

Pennsylvania had seven cities make the list of 500 cities across the country with Philadelphia taking the top spot in the Commonwealth and a top 10 city in the country to get fresh food.

Two factors had to be left out of the rankings, however, with Lawnstarter saying they didn’t include farmers markets, farm-to-table restaurants, co-ops, and grocery stores selling local products due to lack of data and Community-Supported Agriculture (CSAs) due to errors in the data.

Rankings for Pennsylvania are as follows with their national rankings and scores:

    • Philadelphia (9) score: 29.42
    • Reading (18) score: 27.50
    • Allentown (20) score: 26.81
    • Bethlehem (22) score: 26.77
    • Pittsburgh (81) score: 19.37
    • Erie (231) score: 12.52
    • Scranton (371) score: 8.43
