The announcement from Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker comes just over a week after hundreds of people gathered at a town hall meeting to either voice their concerns or show their support of the proposed new Sixers Arena.

The proposed site of the $1.5 billion project is set to be a part of Philadelphia’s Fashion District Mall, which is currently along Market Street between 10th and 11th streets. Since the initial announcement of the proposed arena, there has been a strong push back from the Chinatown community, as many believe it will have a negative impact on the community.

A spokesperson from the Sixers commented about Mayor Parker’s decision to support the proposed new arena, stating, “ We are grateful to Mayor Parker and her team for their time and diligence in evaluating our proposal and look forward to advancing to the next steps with City Council.”
