Phillies lose to the Cubs 10-4 one day after beating them 6-2 and winning the N.L. East Division.
The Phillies were unable to pull off another win against the Cubs after having a late night and flooding the locker room in celebration of clinching their first division title in 13 years.
The pitching was the root to this problem which started almost instantly in the game.
Tanner Banks opened this game, and only lasted 1.1 innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits.
He did not make his exit easy for Taijuan Walker after leaving him with the bases loaded with only one out. Walker walked the first two batters and handed the Cubs another two runs. Walker only lasted 1.2 innings and let up three runs on four hits and three walks.
The crowd was not pleased in Walker’s performance, making it known with a heavy number of boos as he walked off the field. Over Walkers last seven games, he has an 11.05 ERA.
Kolby Allard then came in to relieve Walker with runners on second and third with one out. Allard was able to retire the next six batters and pitch four innings but got smacked around in the sixth. He allowed four earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Phillies offense was able to put up a few runs on the board, but the pitching ultimately lost it for them. Bryce Harper hit his 30th homerun of the season in the first inning, Nick Castellanos scored in the second, and Kyle Schwarber hits a two-run homerun in the eighth.
With only four games left of the regular season, the Phillies are looking to keep winning to have the best record in baseball, which will give them home field advantage through the playoffs. This also means they can use their first four strong starting pitchers to finish off the season.
