September is National Whole Grain Month, which highlights and promotes the benefits and flavors of whole grains in a heathy diet.

P.S. & Co. joined us in the PHL17 Hatfield Kitchen to go over recipes and talk to us about the health benefits of incorporating whole grains into our diet.

Andrea Kyan, CEO of P.S. & Co. says, “We are all about nutrient dense food, but it has to be delicious.”

According to their website, “We take great pride in providing 100% organic, plant-based, gluten-free, kosher parve, scratch-made, nutrient-rich food. We source 100% organic, so if a vendor is out of stock, we’ll lean on Mom’s Organic or Whole Foods to deliver on our commitment to you, no matter the price to us.  Since we opened in the Rittenhouse neighborhood in 2014, we’ve continued to push boundaries and discover innovative ways to bring you the cleanest & healthiest path to enjoying organic, plant-based, gluten-free cuisine.”

The 2020 Dietary Guidelines in the U.S. recommend meeting the daily requirement by eating three “ounce-equivalents” of breads, rolls, cereals or other grain foods made with 100% whole grains, or six “ounce-equivalents” made with an equal mix of whole and refined grain.

Some benefits of incorporating whole grains according to Kyan are, “Fiber, helping you with digestion, keeping you full, aids in weight loss in that sense, vitamins and minerals like magnesium and selenium, antioxidants to reduce inflammation, and the last thing is that it adds a little bit of flavor to it and texture.”
