    Seventy-year-old Phoenix resident Robert Woolley was getting ready for a swim last summer when he unexpectedly tripped and ended up with third-degree burns over 15% of his body.

    Here are just some of the events on this date in the past.

    • On this day in 1884, the world’s first stock index, launched as Dow Jones & Co., published its first stock average. The index was composed of nine railroads and two industrial companies.
    • In 1952, the U.S. Congress approved the Constitution of Puerto Rico. It went into effect on July 25.
    • In 1971, singer-songwriter Jim Morrison, who was the lead vocalist of the rock group The Doors, was found dead in a bathtub at age 27 in Paris. The official cause of death was heart failure, but many suspected he died of a heroin overdose.
    • In 1985, “Back to the Future,” directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, was released into theaters. The film, which followed McFly trying to make his way back to the present after being accidentally sent back into the past, was a box office success and spawned two sequels.
    • In 2012, actor and comedian Andy Griffith died from a heart attack at age 86. Griffith – perhaps best known for his role as the wise and affable sheriff in “The Andy Griffith Show” – had a career that spanned seven decades in television and music.
    • In 2013, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was removed from office by a military coup d’état. Egyptian army chief General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi led the insurrection after weeks of widespread national protests.
