Frightening nuclear bomb map shows Phoenix 'destruction' with 245,880 deaths after 'B-83' blast

An interactive map developed by nuclearsecrecy.com provides a chilling depiction of the catastrophic damage that would be inflicted on Phoenix, Arizona if a nuclear bomb were to explode within its metropolitan area. The maps, created by Alex Wellerstein, a nuclear historian at the Stevens Institute of Technology, demonstrate the devastating aftermath of nuclear weapons in major cities worldwide.

If a weapon similar to the B-83 - the biggest bomb in the current US nuclear stockpile - were to explode in the Arizona city, the devastation would be unimaginable. The B-83 had a yield of 1.2 megatonnes

Wellerstein's expert modeling suggests such an event would result in 245,880 fatalities and 620,740 injuries. The light blast damage radius would extend over thirteen miles in the distance, likely causing shattered windows and potential injuries, despite being the least severe impact of a nuclear bomb explosion in a populated area.

According to the map , the hypothetical explosion's fireball radius would extend as far as Bethany Heights. Everything within this radius would be instantly vaporized.

The heavy blast damage radius would spread for just under a mile, severely damaging or completely demolishing concrete buildings. This level of blast, with an almost certain fatality rate, would primarily affect the area around Grant Park, as per the map.

The thermal radiation radius from the blast would extend for eight miles from the detonation point. This would ensure a 100 percent possibility of third-degree burns.

According to the model, the moderate blast damage radius would extend for just over four miles, causing most residential buildings to collapse and leading to widespread fatalities. The risk of fires spreading is also increased, which would only add to the destruction.

Fortunately, these scenarios are purely hypothetical and the likelihood of such an event is extremely low. Nonetheless, the maps present a chilling possibility.
