August's Celestial Show: Moon's Close Encounter with Planets!

During two of the last few days in the month of August, the moon is set to become very close in the night sky to two very well known planets!

On August 27th, 2024....

The moon is set to appear in the night sky in very close proximity to the planet Jupiter. The moon will be 43.2%-illuminated when the event takes place. Jupiter will be at a magnitude of -2.3.

The main part of the event is said to peak at 7:50am. EDT.

Both the moon and the planet Jupiter will be located and found in the constellation Taurus.

Onlookers can observe the two with the naked eye or can use a pair of binoculars to get a closer look!

On August 28th, 2024....

The moon and the planet Mars will be very close in distance together. Mars will be at a magnitude of 0.8 while the moon will be at an illumination of 32.3%.

The event is supposed to take place at 8pm EDT.

Both the moon and the planet Mars will be located in the constellation Taurus.

Onlookers and viewers alike will be able to see and observe the moon and Mars with binoculars and with also the naked eye.

I hope that all of you get the chance to see the incredible astronomy event before the month of August comes to an end as this will be the last astronomy event in the month before we welcome September's event where Mercury will be at it's greatest elongation west. This means that Mercury will be at its farthest apparent distance west from the Sun.
