Hide-A-Way Lake Scholarship Foundation Awards $3,000 Scholarships to Graduating Seniors

The Scholarship Foundation for Hide-A-Way Lake Students proudly announced the recipients of its $3,000 scholarships for the 2024 graduating class at a presentation held at the Hide-A-Way Lake Lodge. The winners are:

Bradley Storm Button – Bradley, a Pearl River Central High School graduate, excelled academically and was actively involved in volunteer work. He earned his Eagle Scout award, engaging in numerous community service projects, and assisted other scouts with merit badges. He also volunteered at St. Charles Borromeo and Life Church of Picayune. Bradley plans to pursue an engineering degree at Pearl River Community College this fall.

Riley Carson – Riley is graduating ahead of her peers with a 4.0 GPA. She has been dual-enrolled at Pearl River Community College while attending Pearl River Central High School. Highly recommended by her teachers and coaches, Riley was a Blue Angels Dance Team member, Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, and FCCLA. She also volunteered at the Little Blue Angels Dance Camp and Childhood Education CTE, worked part-time at Walmart, and provided babysitting services. She will continue her education at Pearl River Community College this fall.

Brianna Genuise – Ranked 4th in her class at Pearl River Central High School, Brianna served as vice president of the National Honor Society. She was a member of the Beta Club and Tri-M Music Honor Society. She played the flute in the Marching and Concert Bands, serving as the flute section leader for two years. Brianna will attend the University of Southern Mississippi in their Honors Program, aiming to earn dual master’s degrees in Music Education and Psychology, with plans to teach music and band in middle and high schools.

Lauren Johnson – The Foundation’s first home-schooled graduate, Lauren, completed the FZ Goss Home School program. She was involved in the Junior Beta Club and choir, participated in the Peer-to-Peer Program at Little Oak Middle School, and volunteered at a local church. Lauren will attend Pearl River Community College this fall to become an Occupational Therapist.

Tylajia Raine – Tylajia graduated from Picayune Memorial High School with outstanding academic performance and was active in extracurricular activities, including student council, track, and AP US government. She volunteered for Mitch Crew Softball and the PBA concession stand. Tylajia will attend the University of Southern Mississippi this fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with plans to attend law school and become a lawyer.

In addition to these new recipients, the Foundation’s previous scholarship winners, including Collen Blake Penton, Courtenay Sebastian, Kathryn Adams, Kaylie Poe, Elise Stricker, Ty Elam, Helena Hansen, Ethan Kennedy, Elizabeth Purvis, Christian Teal, Lillie Stewart, and Lillian Stricker, will receive $1,000 to $2,000 for the fall semester.

The Scholarship Foundation for Hide-A-Way Lake Students funds its scholarships through two main events and the generosity of sponsors. The sixth anniversary White Linen Night, featuring local restaurant tastings, refreshments, music, and a silent auction, will be held on September 28, 2024, around the Hide-A-Way Lake pool. The Foundation’s spring 2025 event will be a golf tournament in New Orleans. Both events are open to the public.
