Pickaway County high school seniors will be graduating on Friday — congratulations!

Photos for today’s story come from Westfall High School’s “clapout” on Wednesday. That’s when the seniors walked through the school’s hallowed halls to the sound of their classmates’ applause. Praise goes to Westfall Schools’ Director of Communications Emily Clark for these wonderful photos!

Circleville High School’s commencement service starts at 7 p.m. in the CHS gymnasium.

Logan Elm High School’s commencement service starts at 7:30 p.m. at the high school.

Westfall High School’s commencement service starts at 7 p.m. in the High School Dome Gymnasium.

Teays Valley High School’s commencement service will start at 7 p.m. at Viking Stadium.

Due to the press deadline for Saturday’s edition, commencement stories will appear online over the weekend and be published in Tuesday’s print edition in addition to special follow-up coverage in our spectacular June 8th commencement edition.

As with last year, the Herald plans to cover all four of Friday’s commencement ceremonies. Not many media outlets do that kind of coverage these days, but the Herald embraces this kind of positive news about our community. New Hope High School’s commencement was held May 18, so there will be a story about that as well.

To see words of advice offered to seniors, see our opinion pages that start on A4.

On that note, here are some words of advice from Joy Sharp, OSU Extension Educator — 4-H Youth Development. Sharp was on this country editor’s mind since the Pickaway County Fair is around the corner — June 15-22.

“I would tell graduates to follow their dreams, work hard, and always do their very best. They need to make good choices, but also remember that we learn from mistakes we make along the way,” she said. “Always look people in the eye, be helpful, and become a part of whatever community they become a part of. Service is important, and they can always make the best better.”

Circleville City Council member Sheri Theis offered these words of wisdom.

“Figure out how to make money and save some of it for retirement. Money stashed away early has a lot of time to grow. Compound interest is your friend. Help others. It can change your life and also the lives of others. Join a group of people volunteering for a cause that you believe in. Read more books. There are so many interesting things to learn.

Theis continued, “Do things that make you feel a bit uncomfortable. Putting yourself out there can bring great rewards. Ladies, put on a little lipstick, you will be fine. Be positive. Life will be hard at times, but you can choose to laugh more, be happy with yourself, forget jealousy, smile more and complain less. Don’t sweat the small stuff! Appreciate your family and friends. Make your time together memorable and special. Never take a moment with your loved ones for granted. Give hugs freely.”

Any valedictorian, salutatorian, honor graduate or special speaker who would like to see their remarks published in the Herald should send them mlayton@apg-oh.com and/or mlayton@circlevilleherald.com
