At Tuesday morning’s weekly meeting of the Pickaway County Commissioners, Tim McGinnis, Director of Pickaway County Planning & Development, was given the floor to discuss the progress on the road repairs in Tarlton.

The repairs will be on Harrison Street south of Main Street, from Main Street to the Village line. Outside of town, the road is called Tarlton-Adelphi Road. It is a main connector road for traffic on OH-159 connecting to OH-56 and traffic from Tarlton to Laurelville.

Pickaway County has received a grant of approximately $500,000 by the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) for the repairs, which will also cover the cost of curbs and gutters. The grant will also cover the cost of the engineering consulting firm hired for the project. The county’s portion of the project will be approximately $20,000. There is no official start date for the project.

“The road has been in disrepair for a long time. There are also some serious flood drainage issues when there is a storm,” said Colburn. “The repair will prevent that flood drainage from tearing up the road.”

In other matters, commissioners received a report on the need for repairs at the Pickaway County Fairgrounds for fiber optic cable previously installed. The underground cabling is fine, but there are problems at the connector boxes. The cost of the repairs is estimated to be $20,000, and the goal will be to get the work done before the fair begins in less than two weeks.
