Clemson-ACC pre-trial hearing tomorrow
Pickens County Courthouse is preparing for a lengthy hearing in Clemson University versus Atlantic Coast — the civil case in which Clemson challenges the ACC’s exit fee, should the university leave the conference. Coroner IDs man shot and killed by Easley Police officer, man was said to be wielding ax
Investigators have identified the man accused of shoplifting and threatening a store manager before he was shot and killed by an Easley Police officer. As part of the investigation, the Pickens County Coroner's Office performed an autopsy. The Coroner's Office confirmed the deceased was Nicholas Elias Fernandez, 26, of Greer.

Coroner releases name of SC man armed with axe who was shot by police
EASLEY, S.C. — The Pickens County Coroner's Office released the name of the man who was shot and killed by an officer on Monday. The man was identified as Nicholas Elias Fernandez, 26, of Greer. On Tuesday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division released new information about the shooting.
Officer-involved shooting in Pickens County
The state police say a man died Monday in an officer-involved shooting in Pickens County. “SLED” has released the following details about what happened: “The Easley Police Department received multiple 911 calls about a man armed with a baseball bat making threats, shoplifting, then leaving a Tractor Supply Company Store. An officer responded to the calls and encountered the man outside a nearby home. The man was armed with an axe. During an altercation, the officer shot the armed man. He died at the scene. Details regarding the deceased will come from the Pickens County Coroner’s Office. No law enforcement officers were injured. SLED was requested to investigate by the Easley Police Department.”
Several agencies report phone line issues in South Carolina
PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. — Update at 4 p.m. Paul Athey with SC Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office said the outage ended across the state around noon. He said they do not know the cause of the outage, but officials do not suspect any kind of cyber attack or hacking.
