Chris Scott named chief of police at Tri-County Technical College
Veteran police officer Christopher (Chris) Scott has been named chief of police at Tri-County Technical College (TCTC). He is responsible for preparing and providing for the safety and protection of students, employees and visitors at each of Tri-County’s community campuses, learning centers and training facilities. He also supports the police department by providing resources for service coverage, emergency preparedness and department and college-wide training and accreditation.
Coroner on scene, investigating death in Easley, South Carolina
EASLEY, S.C. — The Pickens County Coroner's Office is investigating a death in Easley. The coroner's office said the death happened on Prince Perry Road near the Highway 153 roundabout. The coroner is on the scene as of 11:15 a.m. Monday. No other information has been released.
Authorities in South Carolina discover human remains near home of man who went missing

On Saturday, just after 10 a.m., deputies with Pickens County Sheriff's Office responded to the 100 block of Shivers Lane in Liberty. Deputies found the body of what appears to be a man in a wooded area of Shivers Lane.
Ten Digit Dialing Begins Next Friday, July 19
Starting July 19, Upstate residents, including those in Oconee and Pickens counties, will need to dial 10 digits for all calls due to the introduction of a new “821” area code. This code will supplement the existing “864” area code and will not replace any current numbers. Beginning August 19, new phone numbers may use the “821” area code. Existing “864” numbers will remain unchanged. Calls using the new area code will not incur long-distance charges. Residents are advised to reprogram safety devices for 10-digit dialing and update personal and business information accordingly. For more information, contact the Public Service Commission of South Carolina. Additionally, non-emergency phone lines for the Clemson Police Department and Pickens County Sheriff’s Office experienced outages early Tuesday, but 911 services remained operational and regular service was restored later that day.
Body Found in 100 Block of Shivers Lane Liberty, South Carolina
At approximately 10:03 AM on July 6th, 2024, Deputies with Pickens County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of Shivers Lane, Liberty, SC. Deputies located the body of what appears to be an adult male in a wooded area of Shivers Lane. The body was in fairly close proximity to the home of Justin Scott Gasper, who went missing earlier this year.

Tri-County Technical College freezes in-county tuition for fifth year. Pendleton, SC – The Tri-County Technical College Commission voted unanimously in April to freeze in-county tuition for a fifth consecutive year. The in-county tuition freeze applies to the 2024-2025 academic year and to residents of Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties.
