Automotive supplier to build in Pickens County
An automotive supplier, with headquarters in Germany, has chosen Pickens County for its first South Carolina operations. According to the announcement, ElringKlinger will make a $40 million investment and create 115 new jobs in a new facility at 3800 Calhoun Memorial Highway, Easley. The operation will manufacture electric battery cell contacting systems. Worldwide ElringKlinger has 44 manufacturing locations. At Easley, plans call for the operations to start in the middle of next year. The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project. The council also awarded a $750 thousand set-aside grant to Pickens County to assist with the costs of site preparation, building construction and road improvements.

I sincerely thank conservative voters of Six Mile, Norris, Central and Clemson for their support in the Republican primary. Pickens County had the highest voter turnout of any Upstate county, so congratulations to voters for their engagement and concern for good government. My goal is to follow the Republican platform and effectively represent the people of the district.
Motorcycle fatality identified
Sunday’s motorcycle fatality in rural Pickens County has been identified as a Greer, South Carolina resident — Austin Blake Smith. The deputy Pickens County coroner, Tommy Page, says motorcyclist Smith collided with a second vehicle on highway 11 and was thrown into the guardrail. At the time, Smith was helmeted and wearing appropriate safety gear. He was pronounced dead of multi traumatic injuries. The accident remains under investigation by both the coroner’s office and the state patrol.
