Coast Guard investigates unknown oily substance in St. Marys River
SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Northern Great Lakes is investigating pollution in the St. Marys River near downtown Sault Ste. Marie. The USCG reports at 5 p.m. Monday, the agency received a report of an oily sheen drifting down the St. Marys River. USCG Pollution Responders investigated the area and discovered the sheen near the USCG base, the Museum Ship Valley Camp, and the George Kemp Marine.

Laker Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) volleyball program has been named a recipient of the 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for maintaining a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, as announced by the AVCA on Wednesday, with the program's top performer in the classroom being outgoing senior Emilee McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.) who recently completed her final year at LSSU with not only the top GPA among her teammates, but among her entire graduating class, earning the title of valedictorian.
