Public Forum with Opioid Task Force Set for Friday
An Oconee County task force dedicated to combating the local opioid epidemic invites the public to a discussion this week on how to improve its efforts. Task force member Jon Holland announced that the public forum, set for 10 a.m. Friday in the Oconee County Council chambers in Walhalla, will focus on discussing community needs as part of a gap analysis. A summer internship to remember
A rising senior at Clemson University, Cheney Everett, completed a rare summer internship with the South Carolina Supreme Court. A story by Clemson University’s Riley Morningstar tracks how Everett, s philosophy major in the area of law, liberty and justice, spent six weeks in Columbia watching the justice system at work from the inside. The internship was organized and funded by the Department of Philosophy and Religion for around a decade. Previous court interns from the department have attended Yale and Harvard law schools.

A horticulture expert at Clemson University took an unusual path to her professorship. The patented variations of Ksenija Gasic could help solve the problems plaguing the South Carolina peach industry. In a profile of the Clemson Research Foundation, Gasic is seen picking a peach at the Musser Fruit Research Center in the Friendship Community of Oconee County. She grew up in a small village in the European country of Serbia. But it was a fellowship to go to England for a year of peaches research that changed Gasic’s trajectory.
