Not the best day to be at Dollywood. On Sunday, Dolly Parton's theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee had to usher guests out due to what looked like some pretty severe weather. According to Fox Weather , there was a powerful thunderstorm that passed through the area yesterday afternoon, that featured "torrential rain" which lead to some pretty wild flash flooding at the park. In a statement shared by Dollywood on social media, they confirmed that Pigeon Forge Police and Fire Departments helped park staff escort guests out to the parking lot, where some found that their cars were submerged in water:
Additionally, they reported one minor injury, and say that they plant to have Dollywood reopened by noon today: "This afternoon, Sunday July 28, a strong thunderstorm caused flash flooding at Dollywood. With the assistance of Pigeon Forge Police and Fire Departments, park personnel directed guests to safety during the storm. At this time, one minor injury has been reported. Dollywood is supporting guests whose vehicles were affected by this weather event, and cleanup crews have been deployed. The park currently is scheduled to open at noon on Monday, July 29.
Park officials will continue to assess conditions and updates will be posted to our social media pages as additional information becomes available. " The park also confirmed in the statement that they are "supporting guests whose vehicles were affected," and I have no doubt they will do whatever they can to help anyone who had issues due to this flooding: But you really have to see it for yourself to understand how crazy it was... Ryan McGee, who is a Senior Writer for ESPN, was there and likened it to "Old Testament" flooding... so yeah, it was pretty intense: You can see a few other videos and images below:
