Waverly Village Council met in regular session Wednesday, May 15 and during his mayor’s report Mayor Richard Henderson informed council that the second meeting in June was scheduled for June 19 and that is the holiday of Juneteenth.

Henderson asked council for a motion to move the meeting schedule to June 26. Council passed the measure by a 7-0 vote.

The next meeting following that June meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3.

With being right before a holiday Henderson asked to move the meeting from July 3 to July 10 and to keep the normal two weeks between meetings, move the meeting originally scheduled for July 17 to July 24. Council passed the measure by 7-0 vote.

“We (the council and mayor) also need to have an emergency meeting on May 29,” Henderson said. “That is a Wednesday and the reason we need to do so is so we can get all quotes and everything put together on the insurance. We need to get that passed. It has to be passed June 1.”

Councilman Forest Blakeman asked if the supervisors would be present at the meeting. He said, in the past, when the council talked about insurance the department heads were present to discuss any changes.

Councilperson Angel Glass said that the new insurance plan would change any coverage or cost to any employees.

Council also passed two ordinances that deal with attempting to ease the congestion on Market Street.

The first redefines proper truck routes between US 23 and state Route 220 in the village.

On the south side of US 23, semi-trailers going between state Route 220 and US 23 shall use W. Second Street all the way to the traffic light at the intersection with US 23.

On the northside of US 23, semi-trailers going between state Route 220 and US 23 shall use Lock Street.

All other streets are prohibited to semi-trailers.

The other ordinance prohibits left turns on to US 23 from Market Street, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 6 a.m.and 5 p.m. The ordinance goes into effect June 1, 2024.

Both ordinances passed by unanimous votes.
