According to a report from the Ohio Department of Public Safety, a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck driven by Steven Soale, 49, of Sabina, was traveling southeast on Lapperell Road when it drove off the left side of the roadway and then submerged in a pond.

According to a Facebook post by the Piketon Seal Township Fire Department, on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 10:24 p.m., a crew was dispatched to assist the Benton Township Fire Department with a pickup truck that had an accident and ended up in a pond.

Three units, plus a rescue boat unit, responded to the call. Once on scene, the units were advised Soale and his passenger Faris Adam Parker, 40, of Morrow, Ohio were able to exit the vehicle.

Soale was charged with operating a vehicle without reasonable control. According to the ODPS report, unsafe speed and alcohol are thought to have contributed to the accident.

Units attached a tow-hook to the rear of the vehicle and then assisted Benton Township FD in safely removing the vehicle from the water. All units were returned to service at 11:24 p.m.

Piketon Seal Township FD, Benton Township FD, Portsmouth Ambulance, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
