Fluor-BWXT (FBP) and the Joint Economic Development Initiative of Southern Ohio (JEDISO) presented a check for $20,000 to Cardo’s of Waverly as part of their effort to support the growth of locally-owned small businesses in southern Ohio.

Cardo’s, a Waverly tradition for nearly 50 years, recently moved into a new building that is four times the size of the old one.

The newly-renovated Cardo’s offers an arcade, Betty’s Bullseye Axe-Throwing, a bigger dining room, breakfast, and an expanded party room.

“When you see businesses looking for ways to grow and provide something new for the community, that’s good for the business, and their customers,” said FBP President and CEO Greg Wilkett. “Not only have they hired more people, but with the move they have renovated a very large building that had been abandoned right in the middle of town, bringing some new excitement to Waverly.”

Owner Davis Remy admits changing a tradition like Cardo’s could have been a risky move, but he believes this is something that is great for all of Pike County.

“Not only had we really out-grown our old building, there was a real need in town for something to do,” said Remy. “With the arcade and axe-throwing, we are excited to add to the tradition of great tasting food with some new traditions for Cardo’s. The support of FBP and JEDISO to help us make this dream a reality will make an impact on Pike County for decades to come.”

Since the move, Cardo’s has hired around a dozen new employees with plans to hire more than a dozen others when the arcade and Betty’s Bullseye open at the end of August. Remy says he is excited to see what the future holds and looks forward to the new memories and traditions for Cardo’s guests.

As part of Fluor-BWXT’s community commitment, significant economic investments are being made in the region through FBP’s partnership with JEDISO. The goal is to create and retain jobs for a sustainable and strong economy in Jackson, Pike, Ross, and Scioto counties. Since 2011, FBP has provided more than $5.5 million in economic grants--creating and retaining thousands of jobs in the four-county region.
