Officials urge drivers to celebrate responsibly over Labor Day weekend
Labor Day is just a few weeks away, and law enforcement officials are reminding drivers to celebrate responsibly.PennDOT, along with Mothers Against Drunk Driving and local police officials, held a news conference at the Walt Whitman Bridge on Thursday.Last year there were nearly 300 crashes and two fatalities during the Labor Day weekend.Of those, 29 crashes and one fatality were related to impaired driving.Officials say it's up to everyone to help crack down on impaired driving."This could be as simple as expanding rideshare programs, supporting stricter enforcement, or simply just having an open conversation," said Tpr. Jessica Tobin of Pa. State Police.Drivers can expect to see increased police presence during the rest of August and Labor Day weekend.
Township honors residents over 85
Deptford council is inviting residents 85 and up and their families to the over 85 birthday luncheon from noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Auletto Caterers. N.J. woman, 29, found dead on side of Alabama road
No foul play was involved in the death of a New Jersey woman whose body was found over the weekend in western Jefferson County in Alabama. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Thursday identified the woman as 29-year-old Miyell Johnson, also known as Kimberly Ann Agere. She lived in Long Branch.
Former NJ cop sentenced for drunken crash that killed 2
An off-duty cop that lost control of a vehicle while driving drunk will spend years behind bars for the deadly mistake. The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office says that Amitoj Oberoi, 31, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for two counts of vehicular homicide.The two victims were passengers in the vehicle that Oberoi was driving.

Over 40 Cats from Northwest Iowa Flown to New Jersey to Ease Overcapacitated Shelters
Over 40 cats from northwest Iowa were recently flown to New Jersey to find homes due to increased flooding in the area that led to a surplus of cats in shelters. The relocation was organized by Greater Good Charities and The Animal Rescue Site. The cats, all homeless and adoptable, are from People For Pets in Spencer and the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa. They were loaded onto a plane in Sioux Falls and flown to Atlantic City.
