East Surry wins FH2A Golf Championship

PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry’s boys golf team secured its sixth-straight conference championship on April 29.

The Cardinals defended their home course, Pilot Knob Park Country Club, against six other Foothills 2A Conference schools to win the league title.

East Surry won the championship with an 18-hole team score of 303 strokes (23-over-par), which was 10 strokes ahead of the conference runner-up. North Surry finished second at 316 strokes (+36), followed by Forbush at 335 (+55), Wilkes Central at 362 (+82), North Wilkes at 363 (+83), West Wilkes at 376 (+96) and Surry Central at 390 (+110).

East Surry’s Pennson Badgett repeated as medalist for the FH2A Championship. The sophomore shot 63 (-7) and was the only player to finish under par. Badgett was also named FH2A Conference Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season.

East Surry’s Darrin Haywood and North Surry’s Jonathan Sutphin were named FH2A Co-Coaches of the Year.
