The sound of rumbling over the horizon may be the brigade of food trucks making their way to Pilot Mountain to take part in the Pilot Pig Out Food Truck Rodeo.

Town leaders hope area residents are hungry and have invited them to downtown Pilot Mountain for live music and food aplenty on Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

To accommodate the food truck event the town’s board voted to approve a temporary expansion of the Pilot Mountain Social District.

Town Manager Michael Boaz said during a recent town meeting “It’s going to be held mostly on Marion Street, but some of the vendors and the entertainers will be in the First Citizens parking lot like last year and likely folks are going to spill out into Marion Street.”

“We would like to temporarily expand the Social District to include Marion Street between Depot Street and Town Hall, and the First Citizens parking lot for the duration of the event. That way we don’t have to go apply for permits and all that stuff,” he explained. The board approved the temporary expansion during the Pig Out.

Vendors will include, but are not limited to, My Kitchen, Sweet Dreams Confections, Williamson Mead and Brewing, Kona Ica, Shikora Express on Wheels, Lelo’s Cuban Cafe, and Haze Gray Vineyards.

The Smoke Shack, Drapers Funnel Cakes, Frank’s Top-Secret Cafe, Slider’s Street Food, Old Richmond Grill, Ultimate Eggrolls, and Fire Chiefs Grill will also be setting up shop.

T’s Treats, Rub and Grub, DonutNV of Advance, Lilly’s Lemonade and Sweets, Blue Skies Creamery, Southern Charm Grill, and BJ’s Fry Shack will all be on hand Friday during the food truck rodeo ready to feed the masses.

Organizers said that live entertainment will be on stage from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. featuring Clayton Christopher and Not Your Average Party Band. The Blood Connection will be on site for a mobile blood drive during the event as well.

In other action at the meeting:

    - Boaz made a personnel announcement, although he said the cat may have already escaped the bag. He said that Andy Goodall is joining the town staff on July 1 as director of planning and community development, which will include Main Street development.

    - At their last meeting, the board opted to consolidate their meeting schedule for the July. There will be only one meeting of the Pilot Mountain Board of Commissioners on Monday, July 18 at 6 p.m.

    - Visitors to the Town of Pilot Mountain website may have been in for a bit of a shock recently when navigating to the page. “If you went to the website either you didn’t get the website, or you got a sneak peek at a new website. Our IT folks got a little ahead of themselves,” Boaz explained.

The new website’s expected launch date is in early July. “Its essentially ready to go but staff are doing final updates.”
