Floating wind project off southern Oregon coast clears first big bureaucratic hurdle in a long process
The Oregon coast is inching closer to generating renewable electricity using floating offshore wind turbines, although any construction is still years away. On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, or BOEM, announced it finished an environmental assessment. The assessment looked at potential impacts from issuing leases to develop floating offshore wind in the region. BOEM is the federal agency tasked with identifying, proposing and leasing the ocean areas.
Northwest ironworkers reject a second employer offer
Ironworkers in Oregon and Washington will vote on a third employer offer after previously voting down a second employer offer in mail ballots counted July 31. In June, members voted down an offer that would have increased total compensation $7.50 an hour over three years. The second offer would have increased total compensation $15 an hour over four years. Now, members will vote on a third offer totaling $16 over four years.

OREGON (KGW) – A controversial measure that would put more money in the pockets of Oregonians will be on the ballot in November, after it garnered enough signatures. If passed, the measure would give each Oregon resident a rebate of $1,600 every year, as long as they live at least 200 days in the state. A family of four would receive $6,400.
