More early voting centers open in Pima County for July 30 primary
Pima County voters have new spots to cast an early ballot or drop off vote-by-mail ballots this week. The results of the July 30 primary election will decide which candidates will be their respective parties’ nominees in the Nov. 5 general election in races for U.S. Senate, Congress, the Arizona Legislature and a number of local races.

John Peck is a former justice of the peace in Ajo. Arizona justice courts are often overlooked in general by the media and given scant attention at election time. But of the 1.47 million total cases filed last fiscal year (2023) in all Arizona courts, nearly half were filed in statewide justice courts, with more than 100,000 of them in the Pima County Consolidated Justice Court. The majority of people who have an Arizona court experience have that experience in our justice courts.

Pima County is getting several cooling stations made from shipping containers that briefly blocked gaps in the border wall. The solar-powered “cooltainers” are equipped with air conditioning and can accommodate up to 15 people at a time. The project is a collaboration with the Arizona Department of Health Services.
