A man accused of stealing two cars was arrested at the public gym Thursday morning.

Thomas J. Creamer Jr., 28, faces felony charges of unlawful use of transportation, according to a probable-cause statement obtained by InMaricopa .

Officers responded to a home near West San Ildefanso Avenue and North Alicante Street in Tortosa where a Toyota Tacoma was reported stolen just after 8 p.m. The owner was loading supplies into the truck when Creamer reportedly jumped in the cab and took off.

It did not take long for police to find the stolen Toyota in the parking lot at La Quinta hotel on John Wayne Parkway. Hotel staff provided footage of Creamer getting out of the driver’s seat, leaving the keys in the truck and walking over to Copper Sky Recreation Complex.

An off-duty cop spotted Creamer at the gym and recognized him as being connected to a different stolen vehicle case the day before. Police handcuffed Creamer and found the clothes he was wearing in the hotel footage in his locker.

Creamer admitted to stealing both cars and was booked into the Pinal County jail on $10,000 bond.

His criminal history includes DUI, assault, fighting and criminal damage, according to court records. InMaricopa previously reported Creamer was arrested on assault charges in 2019 .

Creamer faces four years in prison.
