Cheyenne Frontier Days Unveils Plans For New American Indian Village
Cheyenne Frontier Days Officials unveiled plans for the new Morningstar American Indian Village on Friday. The new village is slated to open in 2026 near the CFD Old West Museum. Renee Middleton, Executive Director of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Foundation, told Townsquare Media the goal is to have the new facility open in time for Frontier Days 2026, which will be the Year of the Native American at CFD. Middleton said the new facility is made possible in large part by a grant from the Hughes Foundation. She added that Frontier Days officials will raise additional money for the village's educational component. Middleton said the total final cost of the village is "still up in the air right now. But I can tell you right now it's already over $10 million."

The victim of a deadly shooting in a bar and restaurant in Denver last week was born and raised in Casper. Todd Kidd died trying to take a gun from 14-year-old Steven "Echo" Marquez, who was arrested in Casper this week and is now being held for investigation of first-degree murder. Per standard protocol, the Denver District Attorney’s office will make the final determination of charges.

Kum and Gone — Maverik Rebranding of Kum and Go Stores Set for September
ROCK SPRINGS – The Kum & Go brand will see its final days in Rock Springs in early September with closures scheduled to renovate the convenience stores to the Maverik brand. According to a schedule published on Maverik’s website, the three Rock Springs Kum & Go locations will close during the second week of September. The first closure will take place at the Elk Street location, which will close Sept. 9. The 9th Street location closes the next day, while the Foothill Boulevard location is set to close Sept. 11. All three locations will reopen Sept. 17.

KHOL · The Jackson Boys push their limits and break a rule on Race To Survive. Two Jacksonites are trying to survive — climbing, canoeing, killing their own food — on national television. Oliver Dev and Corry Jones are featured on the current season of Race to Survive: New Zealand. Race to Survive is a competition where contestants must rely on a combination of endurance racing, survival skills, and intuition as they navigate 150 miles of New Zealand’s harshest terrain. Contestants have to climb mountains, raft down rivers, rappel down cliffs, and in new this season, contestants were given no food. They had to forage, hunt, or earn every calorie. It’s like an adventure race on steroids. Nine teams of two compete for a grand prize of $500,000.
‘Stuff the Bus’ school supply drive underway
Donation Station, a local nonprofit, is organizing its annual “Stuff the Bus” event to gather school supplies for local students in need. The drive will take place at multiple locations, including the Staples parking lot on Friday, July 19th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Walmart parking lot on Saturday, July 20th, and Saturday, July 27th, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Knights Host Legion West District Class A Tournament
GREEN RIVER – The Knights are ready to host the 2024 Wyoming American Legion West District Class A Tournament this weekend with the first game Friday at 10 a.m. Other teams who are competing in the tournament are Cody, Evanston, Lovell, Powell, Rawlins, Riverton, and Saratoga. The final four teams will qualify for the Class A State Tournament in Powell from July 26-31.

The National High School Finals Rodeo is moving on to the 2nd go-round in Rock Springs and the Wyoming girls team had a solid 1st go and sits in 2nd place behind Texas. Hadley Thompson of Yoder is currently 3rd in the girls all-around as she took 3rd in the 1st go of the goat tying in 7.09. She was 7th in the 1st go of the breakaway in 2.37 with Rhame Hicks of Gillette taking 6th in 2.36. Sheridan's Abagail Olson jumped to 3rd in the barrel racing with a run of 17.215. Kloe Nichols of Boulder was 9th in the 1st go. Caitlin Moore of Wright placed 5th in the first go-round of the pole-bending in 20.111 with Gillette's Abby Milburg 15th. Karly Peterson of Buffalo was 23rd in the girls cutting and Sydnee Roady of Worland was 38th in the reined cow horse event.
