    Above and beyond: Here are Pine Plains' scholar athletes for 2023-24

    The Mid-Hudson Athletic League recently honored its top senior student-athletes for each high school. Pine Plains High School selected Elizabeth Hieter and Nicholas McPherson.

    Here are their profiles:

    Elizabeth Hieter

    GPA: 102.57

    Class Rank: 1

    Varsity Sports: Soccer; Basketball; Outdoor Track and Field

    Academic Honors/Extracurricular Activities: Valedictorian; Key Club President; Student Council Historian; National Honor Society; Math Honor Society; HOBY Leadership Conference Alumni; Stissing Theatre Guild; Band; Chorus; Battle of the Books

    Athletic Honors: Team Captain for Soccer and Basketball; All-Star Team for Soccer; Varsity Letters; school record for most goalie saves in a Varsity career; Soccer MVP 2022 and 2023

    Community Service: Junior Leader at Pioneer Girls and Youth Group in my church; Coach of Unified Basketball; Hudson Valley Bridge Builders member; Coach for Pine Plains youth soccer program

    Future Plans: Cedarville University, to major in Mechanical Engineering through a medical lens to hopefully go into prosthetic design and production; play Club Ultimate Frisbee

    Nicholas McPherson

    GPA: 102.3

    Class Rank: 2

    Varsity Sports: Cross Country; Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field

    Academic Honors/Extracurricular Activities: Salutatorian; Drumming (Rhinebeck School of Music); Key Club; Mock Trial; National Honor Society; shadowing Ophthalmologist

    Athletic Honors: Team Captain for Indoor Track and Field; Cross Country team Class D 2023 state champion; Section IX Champion 3,200-meter relay team

    Community Service: Pine Plains Food Pantry; Willow Roots; Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic Assistant; Roadside Clean-up; Usher for school play; Haunted Fortress in Stanfordville; Assistant at sixth Grade Orientation; Open House Assistant

    Future Plans: Hamilton College, to major in Biology with an interest in Music and Spanish. participate on the Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
