Three Buffs make College Football News’ preseason ranking of top 25 Big 12 players
Led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders at the No. 1 spot, three Colorado Buffaloes standouts made College Football News’ preseason ranking of the Big 12’s top 25 players. Cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter slotted in at No. 3, one spot behind Oklahoma State star running back Ollie Gordon II, and safety Shilo Sanders snuck in at No. 23. While three is a respectable number of players, other deserving Buffs include wide receiver LaJohntay Wester, defensive lineman BJ Green II and defensive end Dayon Hayes. You could also make an argument for punter Mark Vassett, wide receiver Will Sheppard, linebacker LaVonta Bentley and others. College Football News gave the most love to the Arizona Wildcats, who led all teams with five featured players: wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan (No. 5), cornerback Tacario Davis (No. 6), linebacker Jacob Manu (No. 16), quarterback Noah Fifita (No. 18) and offensive tackle Jonah Savaiinaea (No. 19). Link made between Colorado football HC Deion Sanders and Lincoln Riley's USC job
Deion Sanders was, for some reason, linked to Lincoln Riley's USC head coaching job in yet another Colorado football escape plan hatched by a writer. This time, it was Essentially Sports' Jeevesh Singh who made a wild career change prediction for Coach Prime; the reasoning being that Paul Finebaum said Riley's 2023 coaching job was an all-time bad one.
Team Colorado advances past Purple Reign (K-State alumni) in The Basketball Tournament
Loaded with several former Buffs and a handful of new faces, Team Colorado took down Purple Reign (Kansas State alumni) in its opening game of The Basketball Tournament (TBT) Saturday afternoon. No. 5 seed Team Colorado, playing for the tournament’s $1 million winner-take-all prize, was led offensively by D’Shawn Schwartz, who finished with a team-high 21 points in the 71-67 win. Former Sam Houston State big man Michael Holyfield and Colorado native Jaizec Lottie also contributed 10 points each at Wichita State’s Charles Koch Arena. In the second round, Team Colorado will face Wichita State’s alumni team, the top-seeded AfterShocks, on their home court Monday at 7 p.m. MT (Fox Sports 1). Head coach Zach Ruebesam’s squad benefited from a considerable size advantage against Purple Reign, outrebounding the former Wildcats by seven. Andre Roberson, who spent seven seasons in the NBA following his time with the Buffs, snagged a team-high nine rebounds and Holyfield had eight boards. CU Buffs position preview: Running backs could be key to offensive success
With Shedeur Sanders at quarterback, the Colorado offense was explosive at times in 2023. The offense wasn’t consistent enough, however, with the lack of a run game playing a major role. Coming into this season, Sanders is back and he has a deep core of receivers to throw to...
