Work progressing on Pineville football field

A crew from Gilpin Construction was busy laying concrete for a new sidewalk leading to the Pineville athletic complex on Tuesday. Work on the field was delayed after an issue getting drainage pipes to line up with the existing sewer and storm water system, but sprigs of grass have now been planted on the football field and are taking root. The hurricane that hit Texas also caused a one-week delay in the new grandstands. Pineville superintendent Russell Thompson said the school is preparing back-up plans for their first two home games (Aug. 23 against Clay County and Aug. 30 against Rockcastle County) in case the field is not ready. The Mountain Lions’ next scheduled home game is not until Oct. 3 against Williamsburg. (Photo by Jay Compton)
