Northwestern State University will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23 ,to introduce James. T. Genovese as the university’s 21st president. The event will be in the Sylvan Friedman Student Union Ballroom. All in the community are invited. Genovese, who has served as an associate justice on the Louisiana Supreme Court, was named the university’s president July 18 and will assume office in August. Lifelong Natchitoches resident celebrates 100th birthday
Family and friends gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday for lifelong Natchitoches resident Laura Lavespere Saturday on July 20. She’s lived in the City of Lights since she was a teenager. She worked for years at Northwestern State University as a controller for approximately 30 years. She later worked at Gwen’s Ladies Wear until she retired to babysit her only granddaughter. She was married to Eugene Lavespere Sr. until his death in 1998. She has one son, Eugene Lavespere Jr.
