Norton Adds Former Blazer Miyah Barnes to UAB Women’s Basketball Staff
BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball head coach Randy Norton announced Blazer alum Miyah Barnes as assistant coach and director of player development on Friday. Barnes spent four seasons in the Green in Gold from 2016-20. "We are thrilled to have Miyah back with UAB Basketball," Norton said. "The experience she garnered in playing overseas and running her own basketball training sessions puts her in a great position to be extremely valuable to our program. Miyah was instrumental to the success of our program when she was here as a four-year starter as our point guard. She won 88 games, had three postseason runs and the first ever Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship. She completely understands the values, standards and the mission of our program."

Even while serving as an emergency room (ER) nurse for more than three decades, Brenda Sampson never gave up on her dream of becoming an artist. Sampson, who has worked at both the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Medical West Hospital in Bessemer, Alabama, and Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, said, “I did some art on the side, and the ERs … allowed me to put my artwork on the walls [of the facilities].”
