Meet Sound of the ‘Stone
Pipestone’s new community band, Sound of the ‘Stone, will perform Monday, July 22 at 6 p.m. as part of Meinders Community Library’s Summer Music Series. The band was founded by Reggie Gorter, Carter Vogel and Michelle Powers earlier this year. It has 15 members ranging in age from teens to 70s. They come from Pipestone, Woodstock, Edgerton, Flandreau and Sioux Falls and play saxophone, clarinet, trombone, trumpet, tuba, bass guitar, drums, piano and more. The founders said they could still use horn, baritone saxophone, trombone, trumpet and guitar players. The founders said the band plays big band music such as Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller.
