PISCATAWAY, NJ – More than 100 people attended the annual "Picnic of the Heroes" event at Johnson Park Grove in Piscataway hosted by the Somerset branch of Senior Helpers of Central New Jersey, according to organizers.
The gathering brought together caregivers, clients, and their families for a day of celebration and appreciation.
Senior Helpers of Central New Jersey provides one-on-one home care assistance throughout Somerset and Northern Middlesex counties. The company's certified home health aides help elderly individuals stay in their homes and remain independent.
Senior Helpers Director of Operations Jennifer Sult provided TAPinto with feedback from a handful of clients and family members emphasizing the type of care one can expect from Senior Helpers of Central New Jersey.
“We are having a good time. Ida, my caregiver, is a godsend and has really become a part of my family. We do exercises, go to the mall, meet up with my friends. Though I am not what I used to be, Ida keeps me going,” said Sheldon, a client from Somerset.
Helmut, a client’s husband from New Brunswick, expressed his gratitude for the services provided by Senior Helpers. “I cannot imagine our life without Senior Helpers. My wife is being taken care of and we continue to enjoy our life even after 67 years of marriage. This is only possible due to the care and support provided by Senior Helpers.”
Brian, a client’s son from Piscataway, shared his relief, saying, “My mom can stay in her own home and I know that she is safe. Senior Helpers is giving me peace of mind.”
John, a client from Branchburg, highlighted the companionship aspect of the service. “My Senior Helper is my buddy – he keeps me busy, we go out for lunch or for a walk or he just listens to my stories … and I love to talk.”
Sult says the annual "Picnic of the Heroes" event is one way the company shows appreciation to its caregivers, recognizing their dedication and hard work.
"Caregivers are the cornerstone of Senior Helpers, making a daily impact on seniors' lives," Sult told TAPinto via email. "Their work is challenging, often involving care for those with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, post-surgery recovery, terminal illnesses, or physical disabilities."
