EDISON, NJ - An Edison man has been sentenced to five years in prison following a deadly crash last year in Piscataway, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday. Ahmadsabir Ashaq, age 20, pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide in March.

On June 3, 2023, at 1:41 a.m., police responded to Stelton Road and Mindy Lane in Piscataway, where Ashaq's Lexus sedan crashed into Shailesh Gurrapu's Ford Focus, killing the 24-year-old Gurrapu.

A preliminary investigation found Ashaq was driving 110 miles per hour just seconds before the crash.

Ashaq will serve a five-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison and is subject to the No Early Release Act, meaning he will serve 85% of his sentence without parole. He will be on parole supervision for three years upon release, according to prosecutors.
