Alabama gets 7th Safe Haven Baby Box in Jasper; boxes allow anonymous, secure surrender of infants
Alabama’s newest Safe Haven Baby Box is now in place in Jasper, state Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed announced Wednesday. Safe Haven Baby Boxes are designed to allow the safe surrender of an infant, anonymously and with no questions asked. The idea is to provide a life-saving alternative for a desperate parent who might otherwise abandon an infant in an unsafe place.
Huntsville Poised for Key Role in $2 Billion Ballistic Missile Defense Contract
Huntsville’s contribution to ballistic missile defense for the U.S. and its allies is set to increase significantly following a major contract awarded to Raytheon Technologies. On Thursday, the Defense Department announced a $1,944,082,765 sole-source award for Raytheon to develop a variant of its next-gen Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) for the U.S. and Japanese militaries. According to the department, the project will be executed in Tucson, Arizona, and Huntsville, Alabama.
