NC wellness retreat voted best in U.S. in 2024

PISGAH FOREST, N.C. (WNCN) — Two popular wellness retreats in the mountains of western North Carolina have been voted as some of the best in the country, including one chosen as the top center in the U.S.

Readers of USA Today’s travel and lifestyle vertical 10best.com recently chose their Top 10 Best Wellness Retreats Centers in the U.S. in the 2024 Readers Choice Awards.

Coming in at No. 1 is Skyterra Wellness Retreat in Pisgah Forest near Brevard.

“Guests at Skyterra are encouraged to set aside the worries of day-to-day life and focus on health and well-being,” the site says. “Classes are small, giving each participant personalized attention, and all fitness levels are welcome. The resort hosts fewer than 35 guests at a time to promote a sense of intimacy, exclusivity, and a more individualized experience.”

Not far behind it at No. 3 is the Art of Living Retreat Center in Boone, nearly 3 hours to the north of Skyterra.

“Tucked high among the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina on 380 acres, the Art of Living Retreat Center provides yoga, meditation and Ayurvedic wellness programs,” 10best.com says. “Fire circles, community singing, hiking and pottery classes are also offered. Guests have a number of room styles to choose from, including private hotel-style accommodations or a simple retreat room, and enjoy three vegetarian meals per day.”

Sandwiched in between the two North Carolina locations on the list is Eupepsia Wellness Resort in nearby Virginia in the town of Bland, just a little over a two-hour drive north of Boone.

The other wellness centers that made the top 10 are located in New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and California.
