A man was found guilty of felony murder in connection with the fatal 2022 shooting of rapper PnB Rock at a Los Angeles restaurant. After deliberating for four hours, a Los Angeles County jury declared Freddie Lee Trone, 42, guilty of one count of felony murder, two counts of robbery, and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, after he sent his 17-year-old son to kill the rapper, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

Travis Scott was arrested in Paris this morning (August 9) for allegedly assaulting a security guard, BBC News reports. The incident took place outside the George V hotel after Scott attended a basketball game with Quavo at the Olympics. The security guard had been trying to break up an altercation between Scott and his own bodyguard, according to police.

DJ Randall, the influential UK drum’n’bass DJ and producer, has died, Mixmag reports, citing his representatives. He was 54 years old. Born in east London, Randall became a fixture of the UK dance scene in the late 1980s and early ’90s, helping shepherd acid house towards breakbeat, hardcore, and jungle in warehouse venues and on pirate radio. Mixtapes capturing his jungle sets—and his occasional standalone singles—became formative documents of the era, while sets at venues like London’s Blue Note further incubated the dominant underground dance sounds of the ’90s. He founded his own label, Mac2 Recordings, with Cool Hand Flex in 1996, and continued to DJ at major dance festivals until his death.

Last week, Foxing emailed Pitchfork to invite the staff to a press conference in the emo quartet’s native St. Louis. Unfortunately, no staffer could make it to the event, and, from the looks of its video recap, nobody at all from the press attended. So it went unknown until now that the band has announced a new self-titled album, which comes out, via Grand Paradise, on September 13. Footage from the poorly attended press conference is featured in the music video for the new song “Greyhound.” Watch the visuals, and see the group’s upcoming tour dates, below.

The late Steve Albini is getting a street named in his honor in Chicago, Illinois, his longtime home. Thanks to an ordinance passed by Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, the 2600-2700 block of West Belmont Avenue in Avondale, between North Rockwell Avenue and North California Avenue, will officially be declared “Steve Albini Way.” This stretch is where his legendary recording studio Electrical Audio, which Albini and staff members helped build by laying bricks during the construction process, stands.

After the Allston neighborhood staple abruptly shuttered in 2020 due to the pandemic and lease difficulties, booker Carl Lavin took over the club’s name, intellectual property, and liquor license to search for a new space. Now, with help from Redefined CEO Paul Armstrong and the Noannet Group’s Jordan Warshaw, he’s secured a building at 1 Harvard Avenue—just two blocks from its original location—and construction will start next year. Great Scott is targeting a 2026 opening.

Sometimes coincidences happen and you’re glad they did. I wrote a while back about a Denver Police Department officer who saved the day once after I had been thrown out of the homeless shelter on 48th several years ago. I had left my cot to use the restroom, and when I came back there was a man in my bed claiming it was his bed. The shelter manager sided with him and ejected me.
