The 1975 have been sued for $2.4 million by Malaysia’s Good Vibes Festival, a year after Matthew Healy kissed Ross MacDonald onstage to protest the country’s homophobic laws, Variety reports. The damages, just shy of the $2.6 million originally requested last year, relate to the Malaysian government’s subsequent decision to cancel the festival altogether. Healy addressed the incident at a show in Texas last October, alluding to being “briefly imprisoned” in Malaysia. “If you truly believe that artists have a responsibility to uphold their liberal virtues by using their massive platforms, then those artists should be judged by the danger and inconvenience that they face for doing so, not by the rewards they receive for parroting consensus,” he said.

Jeff Tweedy Announces U.S. Tour

Last week, Foxing emailed Pitchfork to invite the staff to a press conference in the emo quartet’s native St. Louis. Unfortunately, no staffer could make it to the event, and, from the looks of its video recap, nobody at all from the press attended. So it went unknown until now that the band has announced a new self-titled album, which comes out, via Grand Paradise, on September 13. Footage from the poorly attended press conference is featured in the music video for the new song “Greyhound.” Watch the visuals, and see the group’s upcoming tour dates, below.

DJ Randall, the influential UK drum’n’bass DJ and producer, has died, Mixmag reports, citing his representatives. He was 54 years old. Born in east London, Randall became a fixture of the UK dance scene in the late 1980s and early ’90s, helping shepherd acid house towards breakbeat, hardcore, and jungle in warehouse venues and on pirate radio. Mixtapes capturing his jungle sets—and his occasional standalone singles—became formative documents of the era, while sets at venues like London’s Blue Note further incubated the dominant underground dance sounds of the ’90s. He founded his own label, Mac2 Recordings, with Cool Hand Flex in 1996, and continued to DJ at major dance festivals until his death.

Freedom, Sweet Freedom is due out September 20 via Closed Casket Activities, and joining Shelton in the band are his younger brother, Max, and Taylor Young of Twitching Tongues and Nails. Their reunion will begin at Roadburn 2025, followed by “a limited number of special shows” that celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary. “We have so much more to tell you about over the coming months & we can’t wait to see you out there,” they say.
