Light in the Attic Records has announced a new compilation of Ukrainian music. Even the Forest Hums: Ukrainian Sonic Archives 1971-1996 arrives October 18. Billed as the first comprehensive collection of Ukrainian music recorded prior to, and immediately following, the Soviet Union’s collapse, it includes the 1971 song “Bunny,” by folk-rock group Kobza, and 1990’s “Play, the Violin, Play,” by Kyrylo Stetsenko, featuring a then-rising pop star named Tetiana Kocherhina. Kevin Morby has announced a new one-day music festival that he curated. This Is a Festival, whose title is a nod to Morby’s 2022 album This Is a Photograph, is presented by Noise Pop and set to take place at the Quarry Amphitheater in Santa Cruz, California. Peter Hughes, the longtime bassist and backup vocalist in the Mountain Goats, is leaving the band. Hughes joined the Mountain Goats back in 1995 and performed on every album except their 1994 full-length studio debut, Zopilote Machine. “Sooner or later everybody spots the exit that has their name on it, and for Peter Hughes, my bandmate of either twenty-eight or twenty-two years depending on whether you mark the 1996 tour or the 2002 one as the start point, the time to leave the highway behind is now,” the Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle, Jon Wurster, and Matt Douglas wrote in a statement. “He’s made the call, and all that’s left for us is to salute his legacy.”

Oasis claim they will not play any festivals in 2025, quelling speculation that the reunited band would return to Glastonbury next summer. “The only way to see the band perform will be on their Oasis Live ’25 World Tour,” a statement on their social media added. That reputed world tour presently comprises dates in England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, announced yesterday after heated speculation about Oasis’ return. Dates in the rest of the world will follow, the band said.
