The Zombies Founder Rod Argent to Retire From Touring Following Stroke
Rod Argent—the primary songwriter, keyboardist, and founder of the wildly influential 1960s rock group the Zombies—will immediately retire from touring following a stroke. Argent and the Zombies’ team at the Rocks Management announced the news today, writing, in a statement, that Argent’s stroke occurred not long after he returned home to London from a tour with his band. The stroke led to an overnight hospitalization, with Argent’s doctors advising “several months of rest and recuperation.” Find the full statement here.
Beastie Boys Sue Chili’s Owner for Copyright Infringement Over “Sabotage” Commercial
Beastie Boys are suing Brinker International, the parent company of Chili’s Grill & Bar, for copyright infringement and violating their trademark rights after the restaurant chain used their 1994 hit “Sabotage” and their likeness for a commercial parodying the iconic Spike Jonze–directed music video. In a complaint filed in a New York federal court on Wednesday (July 10), the rap group said that Brinker used the Ill Communication song to imply falsely that Beastie Boys endorsed Chili’s.

The Lijadu Sisters Announce Reissue Campaign With Numero Group
All five albums by the Lijadu Sisters—the trailblazing Nigerian duo of twins Yeye Taiwo Lijadu and the late Kehinde Lijadu—are getting the reissue treatment via Numero Group. The slate of reissues kicks off with a remastered edition of their final album, 1979’s Horizon Unlimited, which includes the Lijadu Sisters’ sun-drenched hit, “Come on Home.” On September 20, Numero Group will release the album on LP and CD, along with the first-ever transcription of the record’s lyrics in Yoruba and English, corrected album credits, and more.

Kelly Lee Owens is back with a new album. Out October 18, Dreamstate is the Welsh producer-songwriter’s debut for DH2, a Dirty Hit imprint for electronic music, helmed by the 1975’s George Daniel. Chicago indie-rock and folk musician Tasha has announced a new album. Her third LP is titled All This and So Much More and arrives September 20 via Bayonet. Today, she’s sharing the lead single “The Beginning,” which comes with a music video directed by none other than Tomberlin. Former Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer Facing Wrongful Death Lawsuit
Josh Klinghoffer, the former guitarist of Red Hot Chili Peppers, was sued for wrongful death and negligence after allegedly running over and killing a pedestrian in Alhambra, California, reports Variety and TMZ. The lawsuit was filed by the family of Israel Sanchez, the 47-year-old man who was struck by the musician’s car in the March 18 incident.
Nirvana and Marc Jacobs Settle Smiley Face Logo Lawsuit
Limited liability companies for Nirvana and Marc Jacobs International have settled a lawsuit over the fashion brand’s use of an image that bears a striking resemblance to the grunge band’s iconic smiley face logo. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed in court documents. Pitchfork has reached out to representatives and attorneys for both parties for comment and more information.

Katy Perry will release a new album, 143, on September 20 via Capitol. It will mark the pop artist’s first studio album since August 2020’s Smile.
