Focus Shifts To Repairs At Courthouse
WATER VALLEY – The response to a massive flooding incident at the Water Valley courthouse has shifted from cleanup to making repairs. After a week of using heaters, dehumidifiers and fans to remove water and moisture from the building, the focus is now on fixing portions of the building that were damaged. The flooding occurred late on July 4 or during the early morning hours on July 5 when a second-floor waterline detached from a fitting, dumping thousands of gallons of water into the historic building.
Fire destroys three buildings in downtown Vardaman

SUMMARY: A fire in downtown Vardaman, Mississippi, destroyed three buildings, including a furniture store, storage building, and Hispanic-themed grocery store. Flames were already visible when firefighters arrived at 3:37 AM. Nine additional fire departments assisted. The destruction impacts the local economy and history, as the buildings date back to 1906. Fire Chief Michael Whitten advises unplugging unused electronics and checking smoke detectors to prevent such incidents. Mayor James Casey expressed the town's devastation.
