Alameda Man Charged With Killing 5 Family Members Has Plea Delayed Again
The man suspected of fatally shooting five members of his family at their Alameda home this month had his arraignment delayed Monday for a second time. Shane Killian, 54, is now expected to appear in court on Aug. 30 on an array of charges, including murder, elder abuse, firearm and domestic violence-related offenses. He is being represented by the Alameda County public defender’s office, which declined to comment on Monday’s proceedings or the reason for the postponement.

Kenzi Smith, a cherished and prolific Oakland public figure and younger brother of rapper Mistah F.A.B., passed away at his home in Oakland on Saturday, July 20. Mistah F.A.B. first announced the passing of his younger brother on Instagram. “Sadden to wake up and share the news that my little brother passed yesterday,” read part of the caption.

Using compressed-air launchers mounted on the grilles of their cars, police officers could fire GPS tags at fleeing vehicles. BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Charlie Woods shot a 12-over 82 on Monday in the U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills. The 15-year-old son of Tiger Woods birdied both of the par 5s on the Oakland Hills North Course but otherwise struggled, making five double bogeys and four bogeys. Woods will have to have quite a turnaround Tuesday on a course known as “The Monster” to be among the low 64 scorers from a field of 264 players from 40 states and 35 countries. He earned his spot in a qualifier last month in Florida.

Vallejo Police Investigate Fatal Collision on Solano Avenue, City's Fifth Traffic Death This Year
Tragedy struck Vallejo again this week following a fatal traffic collision on Solano Avenue. The Vallejo Police Department has reported a crash that occurred last Friday and claimed the life of one individual. The accident involved two vehicles, a 2015 Infiniti Q50 and a 2013 Hyundai Accent, on the 1800 block of Solano Avenue, just east of Shasta Street. According to the Vallejo Police Department, the Infiniti was traveling westbound while the Hyundai attempted to cross Solano Avenue, going south on Mayo Avenue when the collision happened.

We've got a little update from the Oakland/Sacramento/Vegas A's. Last week they detailed their financing plan for how their new stadium will be built in Sin City. That plan is: up to $380M in public funding (they claim they only need $350M) + $300M in debt financing + $850M in family equity. Seems straight forward, but nothing is actually that simple when it comes to this move. The $850M from the family would involve investors because obviously the cheap fucks that the Fisher family are wouldn't dare spend that out of their own pocket. The A's claim they have not reached out to any investors yet.
Woman wins Wine Country half marathon for first time
A woman won the Wine Country Half Marathon in Sonoma on Sunday for the first time in the event's 20-year history, organizers said. It was a great day for girl power, with veteran runner Liza Reichert winning in one hour, 19 minutes and 28 seconds in the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon.
College admission getting more and more competitive for students
The class of 2024 faced record competition during this college admissions season as acceptance rates at top colleges continued to decline. At the University of California, Berkeley, the acceptance rate fell from 17.5% in 2020 to 11.6% in 2024 – according to the UC system – continuing a gradual decline spanning at least three decades. Berkeley received 88,064 applications in 2020 and 125,910 in 2024.
