Nate Dreiling promoted to Utah St. interim head coach

Former Pitt State player and coach Nate Dreiling is promoted to interim head coach at Utah State.

Former Pittsburg State football player (2010-13) and assistant coach (2017-19) Nate Dreiling is promoted to the interim head coach at Utah State, the university announces on Tuesday .

It comes after former Aggie head coach Blake Anderson is fired after an external investigation into noncompliance with Title IX policies involving sexual misconduct.

Dreiling was an All-American and national champion with the Gorillas as a player. While helping lead PSU to the 2011 national title, he was named the Division II national player of the year.

Dreiling began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with Kansas in 2015. He then came back to PSU as a safeties coach in 2017. The following season he was promoted to defensive coordinator.

Dreiling moved on to Oregon in 2020, where he was a defensive analyst. A year later, he joined Southeast Missouri State as the defensive run game coordinator and middle linebackers coach.

In 2022, Dreiling joined fellow Gorilla Jerry Kill's coaching staff at New Mexico State -- he was the defensive coordinator. He then was hired by Utah State as defensive coordinator on January 10th, 2024.

Dreiling begins his head coaching career with Utah State's season-opener vs. Robert Morris on August 31st.

At 33 years old, he is the youngest FBS head coach in the country.
