PITTSBURG, KS — The Pitt State Softball team was helping give back to the community this morning as they hosted their Junior Gorilla Camp out at the Pitt State Softball Complex.

The softball camp was for young girls, grades 2nd through 4th.

It was being put on by the Pitt State coaching staff and a couple of current PSU players.

The camp ran from 9-12 this morning and they got a camp shirt as well.

Coach Fuller and company took the girls through different drills and techniques that involved the basic fundamentals like base running, hitting and defense.

There were about 30 girls in attendance for the camp.

We caught up with Head Coach Jenny Fuller and junior Heather Arnett about the importance of getting these young girls into softball to become the next generation of players.

Pitt State Junior Outfielder Heather Arnett said, “It’s so important. Just having them here and teaching them the basic skills that they can work on, on their own, and then just telling them that they can do it, that no one’s stopping them from achieving a goal or their dreams that they want to achieve. Just anything’s possible at this age. And that’s the biggest thing is just letting them know that they can do anything that they set their minds to and put the hard work towards”.

Pitt State Head Softball Coach Jenny Fuller said, “Yeah, I think that it’s huge to instill that passion. And after the year that we had, it’s awesome to see kids at our camp that were at our games and show them that if they work really hard, they can play at a high level as well”.
