Arrest warrants issued for daycare operators after infant incident

PITTSBURG, Kan. (KOAM) - The Pittsburg Police Department has issued arrest warrants for two individuals operating a daycare in Pittsburg, KS, following an incident in which an infant was found unresponsive on June 27, 2024.

On the day of the incident, the Pittsburg Police Department, Crawford EMS, and Pittsburg Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting that an infant was not breathing. Emergency responders arrived to find the infant still unresponsive. The child was given aid and transported to Ascension Via Christi before being transferred to Children's Mercy in Kansas City.

According to police, the daycare was being operated at 407 Thomas St. in Pittsburg, KS.

As of July 26, 2024, the Pittsburg Police Department has issued arrest warrants for 27-year-old Madison Ann Thompson and 24-year-old Whitney Jo Henderson, who were running the daycare. The charges against them are as follows:

Madison Ann Thompson:

• Felony abuse of a child
• Felony aggravated endangering a child
• Misdemeanor possession of marijuana
• Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia

Whitney Jo Henderson:

• Felony aggravated endangering a child
• Misdemeanor possession of marijuana
• Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
• Misdemeanor criminal use of weapons

Thompson is being held on a $500,000 bond, while Henderson is held on a $100,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to seek information related to the case.
