Pirates Star Continues To Own The Month Of June In 2024

Sometimes, finding the bright spots in Pittsburgh Pirates baseball can be tough, but lately, there have been a couple. On top of the Pirates being in the thick of the Wild Card race as we pull into the All-Star break here, Bryan Reynolds lit the month of June on fire, as he always does.

    Mr. Consistency In June

Reynolds has been setting June ablaze for some time now. He has 23 home runs, 72 RBIs, and a .342 batting average in 496 at-bats in June for his career. For whatever reason, the month of June cheeks its closet for Bryan Reynolds at night.

This season might’ve been Reynolds’ most incredible performance yet, as he posted a 25-game hit streak, good for the seventh-longest streak in Pirates history and the longest by a switch hitter in franchise history. That means a lot for a franchise that’s been around since 1876. His streak was also the longest in the MLB this season, and nobody has recorded a hit in 26 straight since Trea Turner did it in 2022.

Reynolds hit six homers and drove in 16 RBIs in June 2024, hitting for a .330 batting average and having a .992 OPS. If the Pirates want to keep things rolling in the right direction, Reynolds will have to continue to lead from the front, and even then, he’ll need someone to step up and help. Looking at you, front office. Make a move already.

    Pirates Looking Ahead

Unfortunately, Reynolds’s hit streak ended on the last day of June in the series finale in Atlanta against the Braves. But if you ask a guy like Reynolds, he’d be happy the Pirates won. That’s just the type of guy he is. He wants to win over all the individual stuff.

At the end of June, the Pirates sit at a record of 40-43, nine games back of the NL Central crown and just two and a half game snack from a Wild Card spot. If they lock in, the Pirates can take a big step this season toward being a real ball club.

With starting pitchers like Paul Skenes , Jared Jones , and Mitch Keller , a team like the Pirates can be lethal in a playoff series. That’s three guys who can go out and get you a win on any given night and three guys who could potentially be aces on a staff. If the Pirates can go out and make a move to put something around them and Reynolds, things could happen in Pittsburgh.

Luckily, the Pirates have already extended Bryan Reynolds, something the Pirates of years ago wouldn’t have done. The Pirates turned down multiple offers at various trade deadlines for him, luckily for us, we get to see Bryan Reynolds dominate the month of June for years to come. Hopefully all in a black and yellow uniform.
