Pirates top 2 prospects named to MLB Futures Game

The Pirates top two prospects will represent the organization in the annual Futures Game during All-Star Week.

Right-handed pitcher Bubba Chandler (ranked 1 ^st ) and infielder Termarr Johnson (ranked 2 ^nd ) are both on the roster for the 25 ^th edition of the Futures Game which features 39 of the 100 top players.

There will also be a Futures Skills Showcase, for the first time in history.

Chandler and Johnson will not participate in the skills portion.

The 21-year-old Chandler is currently pitched for Pirates’ Double-A team, the Altoona Curve.

He was taken in the 3 ^rd round of the 2021 draft. He started out as a pitcher and hitter in 2022, but has been strictly pitching since 2023.

Chandler is 4-5 with the Curve this season with a 4.17 ERA but has won three of his last four starts, giving up seven earned runs over his past five.

MLB Pipeline predicts Chandler will make his debut sometime next season.

20-year-old Termarr Johnson is currently at High-A Greensboro and is hitting .226 over 72 games this season.

He has an OPS of .740 with seven home runs, 11 doubles and 31 RBI.

Johnson’s ETA to the MLB is also projected to be sometime in 2025.

On the top 100 overall, Chandler is ranked 52 ^nd overall and Johnson is 77 ^th overall.

With the Pirates looking to add before the trade deadline, some top prospects could be on the table, but it would be hard to see the Pirates giving up on their top two prospects.

The Futures Game will take play on July 13 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
