According to reports from Pirates insiders like the Post-Gazette’s Noah Hiles, outfielder Joshua Palacios was going to be called up from Triple-A on Wednesday.

But when Wednesday came, it was revealed that the Pirates reversed course and the 28-year-old Palacios will not be joining the Big-League team, at least not yet.

Hiles tells The Joe Show he learned during Tuesday’s game against the Cardinals that Palacios was going to be recalled, but due to “multiple reasons” that plan changed.

“I learned this morning that the club no longer intends to make any moves prior to Wednesday evening’s game against the Cardinals,” said Hiles.

While he doesn’t know why the plan changed, it could be, in part, because of outfielder Jack Suwinski’s breakout game on Tuesday.

He had three hits and three RBI on Tuesday, thanks to a home run.

Before Tuesday’s game, Suwinski was hitting under .200.

“It certainly does seem that Suwinski’s performance Tuesday night played at least a part in decision to . . . pause Palacios’ recall,” said Hiles.

Hiles says the Pirates could be waiting to see what happens next with Suwinski and that Palacios could still be recalled.

Hiles added that he talked with Manager Derek Shelton who told him when Suwinski was sent to Triple-A, he was recalled only because they needed a center fielder with Ji Hwan Bae going on the injured list and Michael A. Taylor going on paternity leave.
