PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers brought back corner Cameron Sutton during OTAs in June to help stabilize their secondary. If he does that it won’t be until the Giants game on October 28, the NFL has suspended Sutton eight games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Sutton was signed by the Steelers on June 5 after he was released by Detroit following an alleged domestic violence incident in March. The 29-year-old would eventually turn himself in and has reportedly entered a pretrial diversion program as the charges were levied as misdemeanor battery.

The NFL investigated and determined he would be suspended. Sutton has waived his right to appeal.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the team did its due diligence about the matter and felt comfortable to sign him.

“There are not any conversations that we had recently, it’s the totality of our relationship,” Tomlin said on June 11. “I met this guy in Knoxville man six, seven years ago, whatever it was, when he came out of school. He's a great guy. He loves football.”

“It's probably the totality of our relationship and I probably represent the sentiment of the organization and saying that it's less about specific conversations, particularly of late, and it's about the relationship established over a longer period of time.”

When Sutton met with reporters in Pittsburgh in early June he didn’t say why he evaded police for weeks before eventually turning himself in or anything else about the alleged situation, but that he’s ‘moving on with his business’. He said all deal with adversity in life.

“It’s an opinion-based world,” Sutton said. “Everybody kind of moves on the movement of not knowing, but feeling the presence to speak. My job is not to appeal to someone else. My job is to be the best version of myself. How do I give that off to the mass or how do I give that off to everyone around me? I’m in full control of that.”

“I’m never worried about a narrative. I’m never worried about what people say because more than likely they don’t know me more than anybody else. It gets back to your foundation, your morals. Who you are individually as a human being and just what you stand on. (It’s about) holding your head high, everybody goes through adversity, things in your life that can change it in both directions. It’s all about what you do from that.”

“I’m ready to keep moving in the right direction, everything else will keep falling in line and we’ll keep moving from there and enjoying.”
